Renowned Hong Kong Actor Mang Hoi Passes Away at 65, Leaves Behind a Legacy in Film and Television

Mang Hoi, a distinguished actor from Hong Kong famous for his role in the 1995 TV series Vampire Expert, has died at the age of 65. The news was confirmed by his niece, Ball Mang Hei Lun, a TVB actress, in a statement to the local press on October 10.
Struggle with Illness
A year prior, Mang Hoi was diagnosed with esophageal cancer, as reported by Dimsum Daily. Despite experiencing discomfort, he remained strong during his final months, supported by his wife and 17-year-old daughter.

Ball Mang Hei Lun, who is 32, informed reporters that her uncle battled courageously to beat the disease. She described his passing as “peaceful” and mentioned that the family had emotionally prepared for the possibility of his death over the previous six months.

Ball also revealed that her father, Bruce Mang—who is Mang Hoi’s brother—will be in charge of the funeral proceedings. She expressed her hope that her late uncle would find eternal peace.

Mang Hoi’s acting journey began with his role as a child actor in the 1968 movie, The Vagabond Swordsman. Over the course of his career, he collaborated with action legends such as Michelle Yeoh, Jackie Chan, Sammo Huang, and the iconic Bruce Lee.

In 1985, Mang Hoi received the Best Supporting Actor award at the 5th Hong Kong Film Awards for his role in Yes, Madam!. Additionally, he was nominated for Best Action Choreography on seven occasions.
